On the afternoon of Sept. 18, 2020, the donating ceremony of the figure of Ancient Indian Lohan was held in China Songshan Shaolin Temple successfully. Advocated by the Henan International Cultural Exchange Center, the Dongfang Handian Culture Museum in Zhengzhou city donated a bluestone Lohan head with color printing and painting in gold in Song Dynasty which will settle in the Shaolin Temple permanently.

Zhang Guangzhi, president of the Henan International Cultural Exchange Center, represented the center to diver a speech at the donating ceremony. Huang Haitao, curator of the Dongfang Handian Culture Museum, represented the donor to give a donating speech. Master Shi Yongxin, abbot of Shaolin Temple, represented the donee to accept the bluestone Lohan head with color printing and painting in gold in Song Dynasty, and issued the donated certificate to the representative Huang Haitao.

President Zhang Guangzhi represented the cultural center to express gratitude to Huang Haitao for his charity activities. He said: cultural relics are a demonstration of the development and continuity of a civilization which represents a nation’s history and wisdom and carries a nation’s honor and dignity. The Lohan statue settling in Shaolin Temple is the embodiment of the value of civilizations in the new era.

Curator Huang Haitao said in the donation speech that ancient Indian Lohan statue is the precious collection of the Dongfang Handian Culture Museum but its best-result should be the Shaolin Temple. “Shaolin Temple is an excellent traditional cultural force of patriotic thoughts and has always been a model of communication and merging as well as exchanges and mutual learning between and the Chinese civilizaiton and the world civilization. We museum, as a civilian force to carry forward traditional Chinese culture, jointly contributes to our strength to undertaking the inheritance of the genre of traditional Chinese culture.”

Abbot Yongxin represented donatee the Shaolin Temple to express his gratitude to the Dongfang Handian Culture Museum in Zhengzheng. He said that Shaolin Temple would be certain to appropriately consecrate the bluestone Lohan statue with color printing and painting in gold in Song Dynasty, continue to play its role of historical value and live up to care and hopes of the government and all walks of life.

A total of more than 120 people, including Vice president of the Henan International Cultural Exchange Center Wang Xusheng, Zhao Baoyou, Qing Anqing, Xiao Jianzhong, He Lin, vice president of the Buddhist Association of Henan Province and abbot of the Xiangguo Temple master Xinguang and others, attended the donation ceremony.
